MyFitnessPal alternatives: five apps, and what each one actually costs.
MyFitnessPal Premium is £15.99 a month or £64.99 a year in the UK. Of the five alternatives below, four cost less and the cheapest annual plan is £23.99. All figures were read off the GB App Store on 20 September 2026 and you can check any of them.
One correction first, because it is the reason a lot of people go looking. MyFitnessPal's barcode scanner is still free in the UK. It moved behind Premium in the United States in 2022, and most articles repeat the American change.

Two notes on reading that table. Several of these apps list many prices at once because they are price testing, so the plan you are offered may not be the cheapest that exists; Lose It! shows ten Premium prices from £9.99 to £75.99. And a free tier is not the same as a free app: Nutracheck's Lite tier caps your daily diary, ours caps it at 25 foods.
Which one matches what made you look
You want the same thing, cheaper. Nutracheck. Roughly £30 a year against £64.99, a database built for a British shop, and fifteen years on the store with 264,753 GB ratings behind it. The two head to head.
You want micronutrients, not just macros. Cronometer. It goes deeper on vitamins and minerals than anything else here, and its free tier is generous. Gold is £9.99 a month.
You want to pay once. Lose It! is the only one of these with a lifetime option, listed at £59.99, which is less than one year of MyFitnessPal Premium.
You never wanted to count calories in the first place. That is worth saying out loud, because a lot of people looking for an alternative are really looking for a different question. If what you want to know is what is in the food rather than how many calories it carries, none of the trackers above is built for it, and that is what we built.
What NutraSafe does differently
We read the declared ingredients off a UK barcode and match them, whether the label writes E223 or sodium metabisulphite, against 516 E numbers and 417 named non-E ingredients such as glucose-fructose syrup, modified maize starch and palm oil. Each one says what the substance is, why it is in there and what the published evidence says, with sources. Most UK packs spell additives out by name rather than printing the code, which is why matching both forms matters.
The same diary counts calories and macros and tracks 13 vitamins and 12 minerals against UK NRVs, so it replaces the tracker rather than sitting beside it. Free covers 25 foods a day, the barcode scan and its grade, and allergen alerts; naming each additive and explaining it is Pro at £3.99 a month.

What is the best MyFitnessPal alternative in the UK?
For UK packaged food, Nutracheck: its listing claims 500,000-plus UK items and names Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Aldi, Lidl, M&S, Waitrose, Greggs and Wetherspoons, and it is roughly £30 a year against MyFitnessPal's £64.99. Is there a free alternative to MyFitnessPal?
Several, with limits. Nutracheck gives a 7-day trial and then a free Lite tier with daily diary limits. Ours is free for 25 foods a day including the barcode scan and its grade. Worth saying plainly: MyFitnessPal itself still has a free tier, and in the UK barcode scanning is on it.
Did MyFitnessPal put its barcode scanner behind Premium?
In the United States, in 2022. Not in the UK, where it is still on the free tier. Most articles telling you otherwise are repeating the American change. Check it on your own account rather than trusting any article, including this one, because this is the fact that moves most.
How much is MyFitnessPal Premium in the UK?
£15.99 a month or £64.99 a year. The GB listing also shows £7.99 and £39.99 price points, which are older and are not what a new UK subscriber pays; a fair number of comparison pages quote them anyway.
Which alternative is cheapest?

Can I move my MyFitnessPal diary to another app?
Not directly, in general. Most trackers have no import from MyFitnessPal, so a switch means starting the diary fresh and re-entering your saved meals and recipes. Weight history is usually the part worth exporting first.
Is Nutracheck better than MyFitnessPal?
For a UK shop, its database is the more targeted one and it is less than half the price. MyFitnessPal's is far larger, 5 million foods by its own listing, and better for restaurant meals and foreign brands. We compare the two head to head on their own page.
